Serious incident

Early Saturday, October 3, 2026, around 1 a.m., San Francisco police responded to the 900 block of Market Street near Taylor Street — outside the Warfield Theatre — and found a man with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital, where he died. The Police Department’s Homicide Detail is investigating.

The city’s medical examiner identified the victim to Mission Local as Ulysses Tykee Davis, 47, a Contra Costa County resident known to colleagues as “Bear.” Four Warfield staff members told Mission Local he worked security at the theater. KTVU, citing relatives, reported that Davis was working as a security guard at the Warfield when he was killed.

Davis’s brother-in-law, Terrance Cooper, told KTVU that Davis was helping escort a “rowdy” woman from the theater when she allegedly shot him in the back, and that Davis’s wife and two of his six children witnessed the shooting. Police have not publicly confirmed that account. As of the October 5–6 reporting, SFPD had not announced an arrest.

Nothing released so far establishes a final official account of how the shooting unfolded. For security and venue crews: treat every removal as a planned job with backup, know how to call for police before a confrontation turns physical, keep an exit path, and report weapons and threats immediately so the plan can be fixed before the next event.
