On Monday morning, October 12, 2026, a maintenance worker died after being hit by a semi-truck at a gas station along U.S. 23 in Louisa, Kentucky, according to the Louisa Police Department as reported by WSAZ.
Louisa Police Chief Steven Wilburn said the worker was checking diesel containers because of the rain when a semi that had finished fueling pulled out and struck him. Police said the victim was kneeling in front of the truck just before he was hit and died at the scene. Officers reviewed video, contacted the truck company, and the driver returned to the scene. The victim’s name had not been released, no charges had been filed, and the investigation continues.
For crews working around trucks in yards and fueling areas, the defenses this points to are staying out of driver blind spots, never kneeling in front of a vehicle that may move, using a spotter when someone must work near a truck, and making eye contact or getting a clear signal before the truck pulls out.
