On Sunday, October 18, 2026, at about 4:30 p.m., Kurt Kralovec, 70, of Trussville, Alabama, died after falling from a bucket lift while installing exterior holiday lights at the Bass Pro Shops store in Leeds, Alabama, according to the Jefferson County coroner as reported by WVTM 13.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. Bass Pro Shops said he was a 12-year teammate. Leeds police described the fall as a tragic accident with no indication of criminal activity, and OSHA has opened an investigation. Reports have not said how he fell from the lift.

Seasonal decorating often sends store and facility staff up in lifts for a job done once a year. The defenses to check are training for everyone who runs or rides the lift, a harness clipped to the basket, a firm and level setup away from traffic and power lines, and a second person on the ground.
