On Saturday, October 24, 2026, a staff member at Monroe Community Hospital in Rochester, New York, was assaulted by a man who was visiting a family member who was a patient, Rochester police said, as reported by News10NBC (WHEC). Police said the man was having a mental health emergency during the visit and hit the staff member multiple times, causing injury.
Hospital security detained the man before police arrived, police said. The staff member was taken to a local hospital for treatment, the man was taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation, and charges were pending.
For any health care setting, the defenses to check are visitor screening and support for families in crisis, a fast way for staff to call security, enough security and staff on the unit, and follow-up care and investigation after every incident. These are system defenses, not a judgment about the staff member involved.
