Serious incident

At about 8:12 a.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2026, Berlin, Connecticut, police and emergency medical personnel were called to TIGHITCO at 245 Old Brickyard Lane for a reported medical emergency, Fox61 reported. An employee had been electrocuted while performing maintenance on industrial equipment, police said.

First responders performed CPR on the employee, who was taken to a local hospital and died there on October 30. The Berlin Police Department and the Connecticut Occupational Safety and Health Administration (CT-OSHA) are investigating, and the reports did not say what equipment was involved or how the worker was exposed.

For any plant, the defenses to check are energy isolation and lockout for electrical maintenance, testing for absence of voltage before work, who is qualified to open panels, and how stored or backfed energy is found and released. These are system defenses, not a judgment about the worker involved.
