Around 4:55 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, 2026, a Philadelphia police officer stopped a vehicle on the 300 block of East Erie Avenue in North Philadelphia, and the driver was found to be wanted on warrants, 6abc, NBC10, and CBS Philadelphia reported. Police said officers placed a handcuff on one of the man’s wrists, but he broke free, got back into the vehicle, and accelerated away.
One officer was struck and thrown to the ground, and a lieutenant was thrown onto the roadway, police said. Both had road burns and abrasions and were expected to be treated and released, with no broken bones apparent, according to police. Police said the suspect had been identified but was not named, and he was still being sought.
For any agency, the defenses to check are planning arrests at vehicles, waiting for cover, getting the driver out and the engine off before handcuffing, and staying out of the vehicle’s path. These are system defenses, not a judgment about the officers involved.
