Serious incident

On Tuesday morning, October 6, 2026, a 24-year-old man died after the forklift he was operating was struck by a semi on State Route 736 near Adams Road in Union County, Ohio, according to the Union County Sheriff’s Office as reported by WHIO and the Marysville Journal-Tribune.

The crash happened at about 7:02 a.m. The sheriff’s office said the forklift was being used to unload building materials from a semi and trailer parked in the southbound lane in front of a home when a northbound semi struck the forklift. The forklift spun into the northbound lane and the operator was ejected; a second semi then struck the forklift. He was taken to Riverside Hospital, where he died. A commercial enforcement officer found both striking semis were over the legal weight limit for the roadway. The operator had not been identified, and the crash remains under investigation.

For delivery and warehouse crews, the system question is where unloading happens: a forklift working in a live traffic lane has no buffer. Plan delivery drops off the roadway or inside a protected zone with traffic control, and give drivers and operators the authority to stop when that is not possible.
